Summary The capability of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR ) for monitoring vegetation ecosystem has been the subject of extensive research. The TerraSAR-X mission provides high resolution SAR data, which are suitable for better characterization of some land cover types exhibiting different properties according to observation dates. The proposed research aims at evaluate the applications of TerraSAR-X SAR data on land-use change monitoring. The inversion models will be established based on the electromagnetic interaction theory for retrieval of physical parameters of vegetation, land change detection technique will be developed using SAR interferometry and multitemporal serial analysis. Various types of land-use/cover sites are selected, and their regional ecosystem variation will finally be analyzed.
