SummaryThe objective is to develop an effective and computational efficient speckle filtering algorithm for TerraSAR-X dual-polarization imagery to facilitate terrain and landuse classification and geophysical parameter estimation. The algorithm is based on the improved sigma filter, which is a simple but effective algorithm for speckle filtering of single-pol SAR imagery. Archived data should be sufficient for the initial phase of dual-pol speckle reduction. Terrain and crop classification requires timely data acquisitions. The developed algorithm will be delivered for further evaluation and utilization. Research funding will be provided by investigators’ institutes.
