SummaryWithin the confines of the project, the various methods of classification of radar data sets using the currently available computation algorithms, will be tested. The reference image which is essential to carry out the accuracy assessment of the classification results, will be obtained by the visual interpretation and manual digitizing of high-resolution opical images. Data from only one sensor are often incomplete and insufficient, thus it is especially interesting to join data derived from different sources and their common use in the process of study of the land use in urban areas. In order to improve the result of classification, the benefits from the integration of radar data with optical will be checked. The additional source of information will be also the digital surface model (DSM) created on the basis of interferometric radar data. Because of the structure of radar data and the high detail of high-resolution optical images, first of all the object-oriented approach will be checked. In contrast to the traditional techniques, the information which are necessary to interpretate an image, will not be represented by single pixels but by the homogeneous image objects extracted during an image segmentation step. During the object-oriented classification process, aside from spectral information, a lot of additional attributes such as shape, size of object, texture and many different relational and context feature will be used. Finally, the main aim of the project is the arrangement of the best scheme of mapping the urban environment using the high-resolution radar images. The project is funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The proposal concerned was recently approved.
