SummaryThe project’sobjective is to demonstrate the application of SAR technology in the field offorest disturbance monitoring and early damage response. It also addresses SARtechnology to the forest community and promotes the applicability to a widerprofessional audience. Within the project, SAR technology is tested for itsusage in difficult topographical regions. VHR TerraSAR X Spotlight backscatterintensity is used in a single tree/crown change detection to derive changes inforest cover after a storm event. Therefore data needs to be provide before thestorm season, meaning before December 2016 and after a storm event as quickresponse, but latest in the middle of February 2017. In case of no stormevents, a storm damage will be simulated using forest harvest machinery,cutting trees and leaving trunks with branches and crown in the forest. Thefunding is secured by the Norwegian Research Council (Project: ‘Sterkskog’) andNIBIO (Project: ‘RedClim’).
