Summary of Proposal LAN3278

TitleLIDAR Infrastructure Assessment
Investigator Sussmann, Theodore - University of Hartford, Civil Engineering
Team MemberNo team members defined
SummaryThis project will investigate data within a Connecticut-specific application, mapping locations of significant overgrowth, or canopy, which can inhibit ground measurements. Use of a target to help capture ground locations in areas with substantial overgrowth will be investigated and is planned for demonstration on one of the LIDAR passes planned for this project. This will be compared to a location with little canopy where data from road and bridge roughness will be investigated using locations on the University of Hartford. This project will document the currently available data sources suitable for civil infrastructure assessment, investigate and document the methods to obtain and process the data, and describe application scenarios for use of this data within state transportation departments and by infrastructure owners such as private owners of rail and pipeline corridors.
