TitleSoil Erosion Monitoring by Using Multi-temporal TerraSAR-X Data over Junggar, Inner Mongolia

SummaryXiWu Se Lang drainage area, located at the edge of Huangtu Plateau, hasencountered severe soil erosion for decades, in which soil-eroded area has evenrisen up to 98% with respect to its total area. As soil erosion negativelyaffects the ecological system and agricultural activities, the daily life ofresidents is also seriously affected. Though the decision makers in this areahave tried to build dams to improve the eco-environment, it is still essentialto develop an effective and efficient method for environment monitoring. Due tothe high resolution of TerraSAR-X data, it can manifest more details within asmall-scale research area. Thus, in this project, we propose to create a timeseries of TerraSAR-X images, by means of D-InSAR and TCP-InSAR, in order to extractthe soil erosion information between different epochs. To validate this method, a set of fieldinvestigation data will also be introduced for comparison. During this study,soil erosion distribution map, as well as time series erosion map, will begenerated with damís mark for further analysis. Moreover, an erosion velocitymap, which demonstrates the erosion rate within the SAR data acquisition epochs,is likely to be generated based on both of the SAR and on-site investigationdata.
