SummaryIce and snow are key elements of the climate system, responding very sensitively to changes in temperature and precipiation, and interaction with other climate variables through complex feedback mechanisms. Large icebergs, known as ice islands, are considered a hazard to navigation and offshore infrastructure. Especially, the Baffin Bay is very famous for its ice islands which originate of calving events of the north-western part of Greenland and are travalling out into Nares Straits into the direction of south through Baffin Bay. It is not yet clear, if the frequency of theses ice islands are a signal of the global warming or if it can be characterized as part of the glacier's natural variability. The main objective of this project is to map and to monitor the location and the drift of the ice island PII-K in order to understand better its movement and to monitor the change of its shape.
