SummaryTheBavarian Agency for Agriculture (LfL) wants to start a research project aiming at the determination of the amount (in mio. tons) of green fodder/forage (amount of grass per mowed meadow) in a test area near Munich. The LfL needs therefore the exact date of mowing for some hundred test meadows in a pilot area. We advocated for the utilization of a suitably repetitive coverage of SAR data, e.g. intervals of two weeks (to be still precised). A meadow is mowed about five to six times per year at maximum. Consequently, the information needed best on a daily basis during these approximate intervals. Background driver for their interest is the Energiewende (energy transition from nuclearto renewables), requesting an improved management of biogas resources here.Green fodder/forage is here the big unknown component. This question is high upon the political agenda. The start of the project was April 2014 (start of field checks). The project is funded by DLR Projektdirektion Raumfahrtmanagement / Förderadministration under FKZ 50EE1318.
