SummaryThe central goal of the project is to close the datagaps on the recycling potential in heaps in the form of a nationwide overview anda regional land register and resource cadaster, which can show the value inmetallurgical dumps fuel deposits. To achieve the objective relevant streams ofcritical raw materials it should be identified, what kind of material wasdeposited on heaps in the past. Based on that overview, which held data by thecompetent authorities in a uniform modeled overview, scientifically andtechnologically innovative laboratory procedures and methods of remote sensingfor detection of metallurgical dumps and their recyclable materials will beadapted and use as prototypes. These methods are validated using heapexplorations and the results will be integrated into the regional land resourcecadaster. Based on the findings from the resource cadastral concepts aredescribed for recovering rare / valuable recyclables, analyzed and evaluated.Coupled with a barrier analysis, the recovery strategies should be determinedwith representatives from industry and academia. Due to the complementaryexpertise of the project partners that may make a decisive contribution toimprove the raw material situation in Germany with respect to critical metals. The significant scientific and technical work objectives of the project are listed below: 1 Knowledge base about recycling potentials 1.1 Application of geographic information technologies builds a knowledge base on recycling potential in heaps - building a spatial overview cadaster available as a web-based GIS application over the Internet 1.2 Representation of different types in the stockpile overview cadaster based on a unified data model, combining and harmonizing of available data of different authorities of the federal states 1.3 Regional high spatial resolution land resources ina powerful GIS application to the analysis of regional material flows in metallurgy in a test site 1.4 Methods manual for the creation of the resources cadaster to ensure the transferability 1.5 Quantification of the potential resource efficiency in terms of amount, type and availability of materials in the stockpile considered types 2 Methods for detection of raw materials in heaps 2.1 Development and testing of new methods of analysis of the spectral reflection measurements under laboratory and field conditions to stockpile materials with very heterogeneous composition and variable deposition and weathering periods 2.2 Comparative studies and validation of spectral and geochemical methods 2.3 Development of methods for upscaling of spectroscopic methods in hyperspectral imaging at a test site 2.4 Development of an integrated multiscale concept using multisensoral remote sensing data to generate geometric and thematic information for the cadastral summary, the regional resource cadaster and the study of individual sites 2.5 Development of an analysis methodology for material analysis of stockpile materials using the historical material flows, geometric surface parameters and the reflection spectrometry on the basis of remote sensing specific methods 3 Process development and commercialization strategies 3.1 Concept for the recovery of valuable materials from heaps - Overview of suitable heap types, exploration concept, required analysis for the characterization of the deposited material, " mapping" of the heaps, recovery of valuable materials from furnace heaps, taking into account relevant parameters (eg stability, tailings) 3.2 Review of methods for the preparation of recovered stockpile materials ; processing concepts (onsite ,offsite ) 3.3 Review of methods for the extraction of metals from recycled stockpile materials (eg selective extraction of specific target metals) 3.4 Review of methods of pyrometallurgical recovery of specific target metals The project REStrateGIS is funded by the Federal Ministryof Education and Research under the code FKZ: 033R103.
