SummaryThe goal of this project is to develop and test near real-time algorithms producing sea ice parameters from TerraSAR-X images. Further goals are the implementation of software based on these algorithms and its reliable operation at the satellite center in Neustrelitz. The parameters to be generated are determined by needs of navigation and offshore industry. Important parameters are degree of ice coverage, location and drift of shear zones, ice age, discriminating brash ice from shore floe, open water from nilas, distribution of ice types, applicability on all sources of imagery available (TerraSAR-X, Tandem-X, Sentinel-1). These algorithms need to be implemented and the software needs to be made operational for near real-time use, i.e. optimised and adapted to the interfaces used at the satellite ground center in Neustrelitz. A comprehensive, user-friendly test suite needs to be developed.
