Summary

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and its remote sensing division, the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS), has an interest in monitoring terrestrial wetlands in Canada and developing remote sensing methods to do this more efficiently. With particular sensitivity to water, radar methods have proven to be successful in this area, and we seek to expand our current SAR capabilities to capitalize on the new sensors being launched today. Data acquired will help establish baseline conditions, initiate monitoring, and provide insight for projection scenarios of future conditions.InSAR data will be evaluated for wetland extent and water level monitoring. TerraSAR-X data will be acquired and processed by CCRS to develop prototype baseline maps of wetland extent and vegetation characteristics and analyze effective landscape connectivity for these study areas.
