Objectives of the project

Monitoring of the current eruption Plosky Tolbachik volcano.

Scientific issues

- Developing the model of the dynamics of the eruption. - Determining the volume and velocity of lava lava flows. - Developing methods for radar monitoring volcanic hazard areas. - Forecasting the completion point of eruption. - Assessment of the effects of volcanic eruptions.

No external funding is required to support the activities planned in the frame of this project.

Methods of data analysis

Differential SAR Interferometry allows to detect complex fields of earth surface subsidence caused by lava flows with their cooling, and deformation of the surface as a result of slope processes and geothermal activity. Determination of the volume of lava flowed through the analysis of differential interferograms of pairs of images. Analysis of displacement and interpretation of relustls of interferometric processing to estimate the period of completion of the activity of the eruption and the development model of the dynamics of the eruption.
