Summary of Proposal OCE1681

TitleMapping and characterisation of sea ice in the northern sector of the Antarctic Peninsula
Investigator Floricioiu, Dana - DLR, IMF
Team Member
Dr. Ing Cárdenas, Carlos - Universidad de Magallanes, Direccion de Programas Antárticos y Subantárticos
Dr. Lehner, Susanne - DLR, IMF
SummaryThe use of high resolution radar sensors provides detailed information that can be used to characterize sea ice, due to their ability to capture images without cloud coverage and sunlight. This project will seek to verify the use of polarimetric techniques for estimating the extent, concentration and classification of sea ice. It aims to estimate ice limits, classify the type and amount of sea ice and identify large floes areas in selected channels around the Antarctic Peninsula, based on dual-polarization TerraSAR-X data.
