SummaryIce sheet dynamics at high southern latitudes is poorly understood due to the limited availability of suited satellite data in these regions. During the recent IPY grace to the common effort of space agencies the Antarctic ice sheet was covered with coast to coast InSAR data acquisitions. In this context DLR enabled TerraSAR-X data acquisitions in left looking mode over areas surrounding the Ross Ice Shelf. We will process a part of the IPY TSX data set into velocity fields extending on Transantarctic Mountains (TAM) main outlet glaciers south from 84°S (Queen Maud Mountains) as well as the ice streams flowing from the West Antarctica into the Ross Ice Shelf. The combination of TSX derived ice velocities with auxiliary data from field work and other satellite missions yields high potential for a better understanding of long term changes of the ice streams in this part of Antarctica. Our work will focus on the Whillans Ice Stream which decelerated in the last decades to determine if this trend is continuing. The data will be processed into geophysical products at DLR/IMF by a ERASMUS funded student.
