For the proposed test area of Mount Tai in China, different DEM generation techniques will be used and validated. In the mountainous and strongly vegetated area around Mount Tai InSAR is suffering from strong temporal decorrelation. We will therefore test stereo radargrammetric approaches for DEM generation in the area, because stereo radargrammetry has been proven to be less affected by vegetation and to achieve good accuracy in DEM generation. We will further develop our "inverse radargrammetric" processing which will allow us the combined usage of ascending-descending image pairs, improving the overall DEM quality. To improve the registration we test a new matching algorithm based on Mutual Information (MI).
Furthermore we will experiment with InSAR and multi-baseline InSAR from TerraSAR-X and evaluate the results of experiments from other sensors, especially with the results from L-band ALOS PALSAR. The final goal of the proposed study is the integration of the different DEMs into a single DEM. Based on the results of the evaluation we plan to derive methods for combining the different height models.
