Summary

This project will participate to the use of TerraSAR-X data to a better understanding of X-wave bacscattering in urban areas and a better monitoring of urban areas. It aims to develop new tools devoted to operational conditions : various incidence angles, various polarisation, allowing a better monitoring of urban areas. It will be validated on a specific set of european cities, as other data are avalaible at Telecom ParisTech on these areas (optical ones, CSK ones), and as it would be possible to acces the ground truth.

New image processing tools which will be developed in this project are based on a SIFT approach dedicated to SAR data ([Dellinger-12]). For big temporal stack, the proposed approach is based on new method using specific means ([Quin-12]). In both cases, subpixel coregistering is obtained with a specific Telecom ParisTech software based on state vectors.

Data requirements : we have selected 4 geographical areas, coresponding to the following archives data, and corresponding to specific aspects of the projects (the 4 topics will be detailed in the "detailed description " section) :

  • On Paris (N48.88,E2.25) : 77 HighRes Spotlight descending data between 2008601605 and 2011-07-26 in order to test change detection in urban areas (topic 4). 18 Stripmap multitemporal data (to compare with CSK data, topics 1 and 2 ) : in HH-ascending mode (interferometric set : 2009-11-06, 2010-05-23, 2010-06-25, 2010-07-06, 2010-07-17, 2010-07-28, 2010-08-19, 2010-08-30, 2010-09-10, 2010-10-24, 2010-11-04) and in HH-descending mode (2008-07-07, 2008-08-04, 2008-08-15, 2008-08-26, 2009-11-03, 2009-11-14, 2011-07-23).
  • Around Toulouse (N 43.60, E1.43), 20 HighResSpotlight data (topics 1, 2 and 3): 12 ascending multiincidence HH data (2007-12-08, 2007-12-19, 2008-05-26, 2008-08-11, 2008-08-17, 2008-08-22, 2008-08-28, 2008-09-19, 2009-02-03, 2009-02-09, 2009-02-15, 2009-02-26) and 8 descending multiincidence data(2007-12-11-HH, 2007-12-22-HH, 2008-04-16- HH/VV, 2008-04-21-VV, 2008-05-30-VV, 2008-06-05-VV, 2008-06-27-HH/VV, 2008-07-08-HH/VV).
  • Around Montpellier (N40.62, E3.87): in stripmap mode (topics 2 and 3) : 7 ascending multiincidence HH-data (2009-02-10, 2009-05-13, 2009-05-14, 2009-07-08, 2009-12-20, 2009-07-19, 2009-12-31) and· 4 descending multiincidence HH-data (2008-05-03, 2008-06-16, 2009-05-12, 2009-05-13)
  • On Dorsten (N51.48, E6.97), in order to compare with CSK data, we aim to process 11 HR Spotlight data (topic 1): (2007-12-24-VV, 2008-01-03-HH, 2010-12-11-HH, 2010-12-17-HH, 2010-12-22-VV, 2011-01-08-VV, 2011-01-19-VV, 2011-02-10-VV, 2011-02-21-HH, 2011-11-17-VV, 2011-11-28-HH)

    • The project is supported by Telecom ParisTech.
      Deliverables will be mainly presentations in scientific conferences (IGARSS, EUSAR). A final report will be provided at the end of the project.
