SummaryObjective - The present proposal is devoted to investigate the potentiality of the high resolution X-band to monitor the coastal zones. In particular, two research issues will beinvestigated: i) the use of wind vector fields obtained from SAR data for cross validating the direction and speed of the wind provided by other sources such as weather patterns on a global(ECMWF) or regional (WRF) scales, and scatterometers (ASCAT), in coastal areaswhere these data show strong inconsistencies; ii) the use of the multi-temporal interferometric analysis to derive displacement map in coastal zones by introducing the detection ofboth concentrated (standard PS) and distributed scatterers. Differnt methods already available in literature will be investigated and new advanced solutions will be developed if required. More details are provided in the full project description. Delivelables -The expected outcome of the research activity consists of: 1) assessmentreport on the overall suitability of TerraSAR-X mission to support the windvector field retrieval in coastal areas ; 2) reports on suitability of the potentiality of the TerraSAR-X to monitor the stability of coastal zones; 3)wind field maps over selected test sites; 4) displacement maps over selectedtest sites. The project activities will be carried out in the framework of a scientific research program titled RITMARE - “Ricerca Italiana per il MARE”, founded by theNational Research Council of Italy.
