SummaryObjective of the proposed study is to conduct a systematic validation of retrieved sea surface wind field from TerraSAR-X data using the newly developed XMOD2.In addition, we will also investigate relation between sea surface wind speed and backscatter intensity of cross-polarisation (VH) TerraSAR-X. The systematic validation is based on comparisons with spaceborne scatterometer including QuikSCAT, ASCAT, HY-2 and radiometer WindSat measurements. TerraSAR-X data acquired in Stripmap and ScanSAR mode at like and cross polarizations are required for validation. Reports including publications are deliverables. The proposed study is supported by the GMES downstream project DeMarine-2, which starts from September 2012 and will last for three years.
