SummaryIn particular arctic coastal ecosystems face risk of environmental emergencies due to anthropogenic utilization ofthe near shore waters whichis anticipated to increase in the coming decades due to changing climatic conditions. The process of observed warming of Arctic land and water leads to an intensification of coast erosion and an acceleration of land cover changes. Remote sensing can support the identification and quantification of the occuring changes. The proposed project aims at the development ofa method to support an operational coastline monitoring based on high resolution SAR data. In a second step the potential shall be demonstrated and assessed in several typical coastal environments.
